Technology helps usher in next-generation graphics for Gamers
Helsinki, Finland – November 14th, 2014 – Umbra Software announced today that Activision Publishing, Inc. has licensed the Umbra 3 Visibility Solution for use in Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfare, developed by Sledgehammer Games, and available at retail.
Sledgehammer Games integrated the Umbra 3 Visibility Solution during their three-year development cycle. Umbra’s automated occlusion culling technology optimizes rendering by making sure that only the objects that contribute to the final rendered frame are processed. Umbra’s optimization software makes sure that objects in the game world hidden behind other objects, do not get rendered. The technology boosts rendering performance, helping achieve a smooth frame-rate.

The Umbra 3 Visibility Solution improves development workflow by enabling both rapid content iteration as well as the creation of more detailed graphics content. The software automatically generates occlusion data from “polygon soup,” enabling artists to use their valuable time on creating graphically impressive game worlds.
The Umbra 3 Visibility Solution is available for Xbox One, PlayStation® 4, PlayStation®3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Windows and iOS platforms.
