Umbra 3 Visibility Solution powers up Unity 4.3

Improved rendering performance, new shadow map optimization and much faster bake process just some of the new Umbra features in Unity 4.3

Helsinki, Finland – November 21, 2013 – The 4.3 release of Unity includes significant new features developed by Umbra Software, in close collaboration with Unity.

Among these improvements, the bake process is a lot faster and easier to use. The bake data is now being cached, enabling subsequent bakes to reuse the data where appropriate. A small modification in the scene will thus result in a near-instant occlusion data update.

Culling is both more efficient and accurate than before. Also, occluded shadows are now culled due to revolutionary shadow caster culling, which brings about massive speedups in scenes with directional lights. Finally, a massive amount of under-the-hood improvements and optimizations have been implemented, ensuring Unity’s occlusion culling is at the very cutting edge of technology.

For end users, the new technology brings better rendering performance on all devices and platforms, enabling game developers to focus on creating more impressive and better-looking games.
